| A Message from Larry Speakman in First CD |
Greetings!
We are delighted we can present to you the first-ever recording
of the Concert Singers of Cary. Formed as an outgrowthof citizen response to the Arts Resources
Development Plan for
Wake County, North Carolina, we have, as of this writing, completed our fourth season of performances.
Since our debut in October of 1991, the chorus has grown steadily in number, skill and popularity.
Now over 100 voices strong, the Concert Singers perform outstanding choral music of all styles,
cultures, and traditions. From Bach to Broadway, the chorus performances have been intentionally designed
to be accessible to the entire community of Cary and beyond. There have been several milestones along the
way. Our debut concert with The North Carolina Symphony
performing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 on the 1993 Summerfest Series, and our debut performance
with the Symphony at Memorial Auditorium on the Christmas Holiday Pops program in 1994 are the most
noteworthy.
As important as our artistic accomplishments are, none of this could have ever taken place without the support of many people. This recording is appropriately dedicated to the original planning committee (Fuller Blunt, Barbara Brown, Mable Howell, and Sarah Sheffield), and it was their painstaking work over nearly two years that laid the firm foundation on which this chorus was built. We also owe a tremendous debt to you, the community, for supporting us as patrons, advertisers, promoters, and overall concert attendees. You have made us an organizational success, enabling us to achieve artistic success. We can only hope that you can enjoy listening to this recording as much as we enjoyed making it!
