July 26, 2001 Dear Friends, I’m writing to fill you in on the exciting plans for the Concert Singers of Cary for the 2001-02 season as well as news regarding the health and direction of the organization. We have just come off a wonderfully successful performance at Regency Park in the fabulous new venue there and we have much to celebrate and look forward to in the immediate future. We will have five concert opportunities for the 2001-02 season, four of which involve the Symphonic Choir and one involving the Chamber Choir. We will be collaborating for the first time with The Triangle Wind Ensemble and The Raleigh Symphony, and continuing our working relationship with The North Carolina Symphony and The Chamber Orchestra of The Triangle. In addition to these new and ongoing collaborations, we will welcome Mr. Kevin Kerstetter (see enclosed bio) as a guest conductor for a winter program and perform for the first time in Meymandi Hall in the new BTI Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh. The 2001-02 season is set as follows: November 23-24, 2001 Meymandi Hall, Raleigh William Henry Curry conducting December 16, 2001 Kirk of Kildaire, Cary (tentative) Larry Speakman conducting January 13, 2002 Carolina Theater in Durham Lorenzo Muti conducting February 23, 2002 Cary Academy (tentative) Kevin Kerstetter conducting May 18, 2002 Meymandi Hall, Raleigh Larry Speakman conducting Please note that the Holiday Pops and Christmas programs will again be linked as one project. All other projects are on "free standing" rehearsal schedules. Auditions are scheduled for Tuesday, August 28th and Tuesday, September 4th at the Page Walker Arts and History Center in Cary. Enclosed find information about the different membership opportunities available to singers. If you are interested in being part of the Chamber Choir or considered for small solos and ensembles, it is particularly important that you audition to become part of the semi chorus roster. This is the best way to ensure that I know what you are able to do since the Symphonic Choir audition does not require sight-reading. A strong solo or ensemble singing voice is important, but reading ability and foreign language ability is highly important because these opportunities are planned on very limited rehearsal schedules. Another matter I must call your attention to is that for the Fall season we expect, at the request of the Town of Cary, our rehearsals, to hold our Monday rehearsals at the new Cary Senior Center adjacent to Bond Park off High House Road. If this happens, rehearsals will begin at 7:00 PM and end at 9:00 PM. This decision is not final at the time I am writing this letter. We will post an update on the web site as to where we will be. Please check the web site (http://www.concertsingers.org) before attending the first rehearsal. I hope you have all had a great summer, although it is a short one if you sang the July 14th program. It seems hard to believe that we are entering our 11th season of concerts, but I suppose the calendar is gaining on all of us. Many thanks to all of you for your work and I look forward to seeing you in September! Sincerely, Larry
