Minutes
A motion to approve the minutes from August 21, 2007 meeting was made by Donna Parker, seconded by Geiselle Thompson and approved by the members present.
New Business
The meeting started off with new business. Member at large Joe Ferguson suggested an additional fund raising activity: a combination of dinner, silent auction, and entertainment. Planning areas include: Publicity, item acquisition, food/catering, entertainment, ticket sales, and operations/logistics, etc. The auction items should be of high quality. A lot of volunteer resources are required to solicit auction items, catalog auction items, organize ticket sales, and provide staffing during the actual auction. Joe discussed a recent event that was held at his church, which was very successful. In the ensuing discussion, it was suggested that a possible location for the event could be the Senior Center. Possible times for the event were discussed. It was also pointed out that the event should attract people outside of the Concert Singers membership. It was also suggested that the auction could be rotated in series with Musicales and perhaps another fund raising activity. Joe Ferguson will continue to pursue this proposal.
Treasurer’s Report
Executive Director David Lindquist provided a handout of the balance sheet and a financial statement of the CSC. In general, David considered the CSC finances to be in good shape. The income items are pretty much on target. In particular, a big publicity push brought in more C4 members so tuition income exceeded budget target. On the expenses side, public relations expenses were high because of payment for a publicity brochure, from which the CSC would get reimbursement from other groups. There are no unexpected or excessive deviations from the budget.
Old Business
Musicales
President Karen Davis presented the Musicales fund-raising schedule. The event at Vespa Restaurant is scheduled for April 13, 2008. Bill Leslie has agreed to perform, perhaps with Linda Metz, a flautist. There will be an event at Karen Davis’ house on April 12, 2008. Pete Smith and Jane Muldoon-Smith will perform. A third event is tentatively scheduled for April 19, 2008 at Gail Jordan’s house. People have agreed to help Karen with some of the tasks such as reservations, greeters, etc.
Ad Sales
Ad sales have gone well, with 11 different members bringing in ads. Thanks to all who sold ads. David Lindquist is working on the page layout. It is possible to bring in additional ads, if they are full page, and brought in within the next few days.

President Karen Davis made a request of board members working on specific tasks to provide a written report or summary of their activities if they cannot attend the next board meeting.
Executive Director’s
Report
David Lindquist presented the executive director’s report. The bulk of the report was posted at the website. The fall picnic was cancelled due to insufficient responses.
Artistic Director’s
Report
Larry Speakman presented the Voices of Light soloists. The women’s quartet will be Megan Bender, Jan Guthrie, Kelly Stephenson, and Justine Limpic. The SATB quartet will be Mary Adoki, P. J. Zhu, Wade Henderson, and Don Milholm.
Larry mentioned a professional singer who auditioned this summer, named Marisa Galvany. She has sung, in a solo, starring capacity, with the Metropolitan Opera in NY. She apparently had attended our May concert at Koka Booth Amphitheater, enjoyed it, and wanted to learn more about the CSC. Larry has asked, and she has agreed to perform at one of the musicales events.
Next Meeting
November 20, 2007 at the Cary Senior Center, Room 302.
